Identity inspires me because its shows peoples personalities in one shoot. It creates a story about a persons life and personality. It makes you think more about the photo to figure out who the person and what story they are trying to tell. I also want to figure out why portraits are so effective and how certain photographers such as Rankin portray them. This mind map demonstrates different ways of showing someones identity in a photograph.
Using lighting to create mood.
Rankin
At 21 whilst studying accounting he realized that his interests lay elsewhere and dropped out, knowing his true passion lied in photography he studied photography at Barnfield College Luton and then London College of Printing. During this time, Rankin met Jefferson Hack, with whom they decided to start a magazine together called Dazed & Confused once they had graduated. |
|
Rankin has worked with many celebrities from Michael Jackson to the Queen of England. Rankin also likes to do self portraits as he is always surrounded by celebrities and knows that the beauty and standards that is projected to this society isn't always the truth or real. John Rankin is one of the top photographers and has shoot for leading magazines, Elle, German Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Esquire, GQ, Rolling Stone and Wonderland are just a few of his projects.

These are some of my favorite photos by Rankin.
All these photos catch my eye and the lighting contrast the makeup or the clothes or costumes they are wearing. |

Rankin cut outs
Here are my cut out attempts inspired by Rankin modeled by Jake Powell.
Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s.

Born in 1928 Andy was an American artist who was a known for pop art. His work is crossed between celebrity, advertisement through this artistic expression. He used different types of media and techniques; hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film and music. His work technique various that's why he was such an icon to the arts world. His style is unique, colourful and powerful. He will inspire me to be bold.

My response to Warhol
When I took my initial photograph I was careful to have a blank background so that I could manipulate it easily. I used Photoshop to edit this image. First I exaggerated the contrast between black and white, then change the saturation of the colour. This made 1 image that could be repeated.
Using disguise to hide Identity
AKATRE
Akatre photography is bold and unique. Photographers have thought the photos out to disguise there identities. These images have made you figure out what there trying to say, and each individual can interperate there own story.
On the right is one of my favourite photos of Akatre because to me this pictures tells me a story that he is a business man and that his work has taken over his life. The paper surrounding his head could mean he's always surrounded by paper work and it's become his life. However that's only my perspective what's yours?

This photo is one of my favourite that I produced. On the left I have the unoriginal background and foreground put together. On the left to edit them I changed the saturation and the hue, I also adjusted the lighting.
I took some shoots to use as a background for my akatre work, I tried using different patterns, colours and textures.
Nina Chakrabarti
At first NIna's work I thought was good but nothing special. But as soon as I tried it I enjoyed it.
These are photos of myself which I have edited with fine liner and colouring pencils to make it into a Nina Chakribati piece of work.
The third picture which was my first experience at creating a similar work piece of the artist work, we visited tautons college and we had a work shop with Jonathan.
I worked on my face first; I blacked out my eyes firstly.
Why eyes? Eyes are seen to be the window to your soul, showing the eyes will show you the personality and identity of the person.
I then went onto designing my face and then going onto my background. The first picture the background is very uniformed compared too the second background it contrasts with the foreground the colours makes me stick out.
